SPIKE’s 2007 XBox360… I mean… VGA’s
SPIKE’s 2007 VGA’s (Video Game Awards) will air this Sunday, December 9th @ 9PM ET/PT. Known for being a controversial show in the past (and that’s not even considering who has hosted these shows), this year appears to be no different when it comes to it’s selection of games under each category.
There appears to be a huge favor of XBox360 titles… which actually isn’t a problem, but when the ‘Game of the Year’ titles are the same exact nominees for ‘Best XBox360 Game’, something just feels a bit wrong.
As for Nintendo exclusive titles go, Super Mario Galaxy is up for Best Action Game, and Best Wii Game (that’s right, Mario didn’t make the ‘Best Soundtrack’ or ‘Best Original Score’ category, sorry… but Guitar Hero 3 and Rock Band are up for ‘Best Soundtrack’). The other three titles in the running for Best Wii Game are Super Paper Mario, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and strangely enough, The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is up for the Best Handheld Game category, and finally, Wii Sports has a chance at winning the ‘Most Addictive Game Fueled by Dew’ award.
Also, the ‘Breakthrough Technology’ award doesn’t even make sense. This category sounds like a hardware related category, yet four 360 games are in the running for it. At least one of them is Rock Band, which is probably the only one that makes sense to be in that category. What about PS3’s Eye of Judgement?
And unlike a certain ‘Sony Sponsored’ review, the 2007 VGA’s are sponsored by companies and products which heavily promote the XBox360 and Halo 3: Mountain Dew (Pepsi), and Burger King. So it actually makes sense in a marketing standpoint.

Considering the judges of these shows don’t play anything outside the realm of mainsteam and FPS I’m not expecting much out of this show.
Isn’t Twilight Princess a 2006 game? It’s excellent and everything but I don’t think it qualifies to be in the running for this year, meh.
who cares wat they say the 360 is good and all but you shouldnt base every game u play off of someone elses opinion.
y does this site seem to bash on microsoft so much?
I don’t really see much Microsoft/XBox bashing here. Just a few days ago, there was a post wondering why Nintendo doesn’t want to follow XBox Live’s direction in online play. And the four ‘Game of the Year’ titles are deserving enough, but is exactly the same as ‘Best XBox360 Game’. The Orange Box is probably the most deserving for GOTY since it’s also available for PC.
When did we ever start caring about what SpikeTV says? These are the people who glorified DOA Xtreme to the max and turned their Video Game Awards program into a bunch of sketches with gangsters and people from MTV. They’ve always sucked at making a proper game awards program. Game awards programs seem better off with G4 at the moment.
Still, nice to know a Mario game finally appears in there for once.
pomx2, it’s not that we are bashing Microsoft. It’s just the SpikeTV VGA glorifies them to max and turns the entire show into farce while attempting to maintain an image of legitimacy. I mostly play action/adventure and FPS titles but I at least acknowledge the fact that their is likely more creative games out there. SpikeTV turns a blind eye to this and only focuses on what titles make the most hype.
the bashing that i was referring to was that xbox "stole" a VC like thing by selling their old games via XBL. when it was merely an extension to the live arcade which came out before the VC.
i do hate it when things are designed to glorify one console over another, but face it the 360 might be the most popular system hee in the US but over in japan its in last place.
X360 isn’t the most popular in the US, look at the sales!
Anyway, like someone already said, who listens to SpikeTV anyway? TV shouldn’t interfere with video games.
Well, want do you want of them? To be blunt, the Wii sucks. (At least right now.) No game thus far can really hold my attention through the entire game. (So the replay value obviously sucks.) And Galaxy’s soundtrack didn’t do much for me. Sure, it’s great but nothing that I stand in awe at.
@pomx2:
I think there’s more Sony bashing here than Microsoft bashing.
Best game fueled by Dew…Naw,I’m sure the only one that had it’s own Mountain Dew flavor isn’t gonna win,that would be crazy.
@Daking
the wii might sell more but most of the people i know have a 360. the wii is a big family console but the 360 is more "cool" among teens.
ur all gay th show was good
