Today, Will Be Known As Video Game Legend

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time has been surpassed, known as the greatest game of all time and sitting on the top position for over 9 years, Ocarina of Time steps down to number 2.
Today, November 16th, 2007, Gamerankings shows Super Mario Galaxy’s average review score of 97.9%, beating Ocarina of Time’s 97.5%, exceeded all expectation.
Three games within a month of each other made it on the top 10 games of all time list, Super Mario Galaxy, The Orange Box, and Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare.
Side note: Digg users seem to want a recount.

yeah i have been checking everyday to see if it will get #1, and it finally did.
Good chance by time all the reviews get in it will get bumped down. Halo 2 held a spot over OoT for a couple of days too. But even so I doubt it will fall lower than 3rd, in fact I expect it to keep second.

well, wouldn’t the next negative review just lower it’s score though? I think we will have to wait to see if it gets lowered down in the next few days/week.
well, i never thoguht OOT was the best ever even thoguh i loved it a lot. Once I get a wii im going to play this the whole day

I can’t say that I’m particularly surprised. I’ve been playing Ocarina of Time on my Virtual Console lately, and it isn’t anything special.
I don’t know…galaxy looks great, but I can’t imagine it’s better than ocarina of time. Also, both Ign and Gamespot gave ocarina a 10 whereas galaxy got 9.5 and 9.7 respectively
Personally I think OoT was way better than Galaxy. But this is just my opinion.
Well, its the greatest reviewed game of all time. The best game of all time is really a matter of your own opinion.
Also, OOT only had 31 reviews, Galaxy is in a slightly dangerous position because more and more reviews are going to come it. Even a 4.5/5 would hurt it.

Wow, I’m really surprised about that. I can’t believe those are the top three. What about Halo, TP, Smash bros. and all those other really amazing games? On the Mario boards almost no one even thinks it’s the best Mario ever.

Yoshi_R, you’re probably right about someone giving it a negative review just for the heck of it. There are a good number of people who want to make a significant impact in the Internet world (i.e. Al Gore, Lonelygirl15, and that "Leave Britney Alone" guy). They’ll do it, you know they will.
Still, the game hasn’t even been out for a month and already it’s #1? That’s kinda surprising that already it’s managed to go that high. Heck, didn’t Ocarina even have to fight for a while to get to #1?
Again, that’s kind of amazing, but I guess when a 3D Mario game actually does something better than 64, it sure to garner some high marks.
By the way, where the heck IS Mario 64 on that list, anyway?

Super Mario 64 shouldn’t even be on that list at all. It was terrible.

which should tell you that either the top ten list on that site either changes a lot, or is incredibly flawed. those are definitely 3 great games, but calling ANYTHING the best game of all time within a month of its release is foolish. It has to survive the test of time.

So what if some game sites ranks it that high, gamespot, EGM, IGN, they all rank games and show reviews. EGM gave Halo 3 29/30, with one reviwer only giving it 9/10. While many people disagree, its just thier opinion. In the end, its wether you like it that matters. Its a gerat game I’ll give it that, but its up to you wether its, "world’s greatest game".
So NSider2 is down for a little while, and it’s because of the Shortest article… ever? Well, that sucks.

Wow… that has to be the worst listing of great games I have ever seen. I’m sorry but Resident Evil 4 and Halo 1, 2 and 3 Trump every last game on that list… well at least the 5 I can see on the post. Plus I am sure there are countless other games that just don’t come to mind atm. Zelda OoT was highly ovrrated as I am sure Mario Galaxy is, just goes to show you what happens when fanboys get to post biased review in magazines and such.
The forums are back and no our servers aren’t that shitty, it happens that the forums alone drain a lot of our dedicated server resources and with this thing up on Digg’s front page it causes the famous IPS error.
Plus I just took a nap and forgot to turn for forums back online.

Seriously, I have no idea what’s so great about OoT? It was the first Zelda game I played and got me hooked on the series instantly. But I found games like Majora’s Mask, The Wind Waker, and Twilight Princess better. Especially Majora’s Mask. Ocarina of Time didn’t exactly have the most enjoyable story :/.

Better than Ocrana of time?!?
Ironically I thought Zelda’s a ‘Link to the past’ (Sharp pun huh?) was the best game to date and ‘Ocrana of Time’ in that list is using the packaging from that legindary SNES game.
Not got SMG yet… but I’m looking forward to it for sure. Finding it hard to believe though that a mario game can beat Zelda series style games.

Its all relative. With the set requirement of 50 minimum reviews SMG is not even on the list. And sorted by voting average Bioshock takes up the number 1 spot. Of course that is only the result of SMGs recent release date and only time will tell if the game will outlive its own hype but 17th is hardly a "landmark in gaming".

Do know however, that Ocarina of Time still holds the top position on Metacritic (99 vs SMG’s 97). I like Metacritic’s algorithm more because they weigh the pieces of data based on the quality of the review for a more useful average score (This allows for really cool things, like The Godfather being the only thing to have a perfect 100 and OoT having the only 99).
