Nintendo Should Rip Off Xbox 360’s Online Component

Toronto TheStar’s
“The Xbox 360 is actually sitting quite pretty. It’s currently the hardcore gamer’s choice and has the largest library of games. Their online component is a model that their two competitors should seriously look at and rip off.“
For those that have never played an online game using the Xbox 360’s Xbox Live service, it’s simply everything online play should be and doesn’t have any of the features that make the other consoles’ online service feel almost useless, ever tried to message anyone on the Playstation Network? and good luck finding someone to play with without their “Friend Code” on the Wii.
Xbox Live features:
- Gamertags for user identification
- Mottos for display on gamer profiles
- Game achievements are listed with Gamertags, and can be compared with friends’ achievements
- Reputation rating which is voted on by other players who decide to either prefer or avoid another player
- Gamerscores, which are a total of a player’s achievement points
- Friends list, which is a list of a player’s chosen friends
- Recent player list, which lists the last 50 players one user has played with
- Xbox Live Marketplace content
- Multiplayer online gameplay
- Enhanced matchmaking using cumulative gamerscore, reputation, location/language profile, skill level, and gamer zone.

Would you be mad if Nintendo got rid off the Friend Code system and instead allowed us to add friends using their email address? I didn’t think so.
Let us know what you think.

Yeah, I mean, come on! Xbox is copying the Virtual Console (They are selling Xbox Original Games on the Xbox Live Arcade now, for they were "inspired" by the VC), so why shouldn’t Wii copy something of Xboxes?
We need this…I am so freaking tired of the friend code crap! We need a better system like XBox!
The Wii’s Internet capabilities are not all that bad, but they could be better using some of those features. Let’s be appreciative they even decided to give us online in the first place
Wii would be so much better with an Instant Message service and MORE STORAGE SPACE. At least copy X-Box on these two aspects.
I live in Toronto, i’m going to check that out. Anyways I hate it when we have to use friend codes, but at least we have online.
They ripped off the VC, so I say go ahead.
[...] I mentioned earlier, Nintendo ought to rip off Xbox 360’s online component, make it its own to become a much more successful console. addthis_url = [...]
X-box has not ripped off the VC, I’m sorry to say, they’ve been offering X-box live Arcade for some time, which is what Nintendo ended up doing offering alot of their older games, X-box live just took a step foward and went with the ability to download full old xbox games… however, as an owner of both the X-box 360 and the Wii, I’d love to see nintendo take a page from Microsoft’s book and use a similar online system, the only downfall to such system is upkeep, which results in the monthly service you have to pay for X-box live… the reason the X-box live service is soo good, is because of the money they have coming in to help them keep the service running smoothly, and even then, it’s not foolproof. on that note a shameless plug for myself Listen to my podcast at http://jazandcptnjack.mypodcast.com
No ripping of other consoles. Well be as worst as Sony!I believe Nintendo should try something on their own besides friend codes.. they can do it if they really try.
[...] I’m sorry to rip on GoNintendo’s headline, but there wasn’t any other way to put it, or to express the anger the latest words that came out of the mouth of Nintendo’s Reggie Fils-Aime, as if not getting the third party games most the “hardcore gamers” have wanted to play on the Wii wasn’t insult enough, now we have to sit through yet another gut twisting sermon on why and how Nintendo won’t be adding the Xbox Live online functionality Nintendo fans and community have been asking for since… about 10 years ago, instead Reggie reaffirms us that creating a caricature self-image of myself aka “Mii” is much more fun that going online on Super Smash Bros. Brawl against the best player of the country, forget that I’ve been wanting to play Contra online since it was released 20 years ago, why won’t Nintendo take some of the successful features from Xbox Live? [...]
sorry, but do you actually see nintendo suddenly decide to change their image, when they’ve worked this hard to make their game systems seem accessible, casual and easy? That’s not what they’re about anymore, so don’t bother imagining anything different. They’ve gained a humongous audience with this image, so why would they care about what some of the hardcore players think? Most of them will still play anyways. This is the way things are =\
Isn’t some of the idea of NSider 2’s forums to share FCs in Nintendo Wifi Games? And just because the Xbox 360 has the largest Game Library out there doesn’t mean most of those games are good (though I know some Wii games that aren’t good either). I have a 360, and its a great system, but I stoped playing it after playing Halo 3 for a few weeks. But then again I never was good at shooters and I don’t really like playing most 3rd party games. I know it would be nice to have all the crap the 360 has, but we’d have to pay for it if.
Well, I really wouldn’t want people to be adding me by my email. I really don’t want everybody I’m playing with to know it. I think the friend code idea is genius.
I like the game achievements thing from the 360, but I hate the gamer rating. A lot of guys like to rate girls either really high just because they’re female gamers, or really low because the girl beat the guys in a game (speaking from my own experiences). I don’t like the whole popularity contest it turned into.
Unfortunately, the 360 just claims to be for hardcore gamers, so a lot of gamers who don’t want to lose their reputation buy it just because of that. A lot of hardcore gamers such as myself prefer the Wii.
xbox arcade came before VC . the origianl games is just an extension of it
no ones copyng anybody and if anybody were copying a VC type thing it would be nintendo because arcade came first
yhhhgh
Yes, Nintendo should rip off Microsoft’s online component. It would make it soooo much better. You know what else Nintendo needs? An actual GAMER running it. One day I’m just gonna start up a company that focus’ on the gamers wants and needs. BWII was good but the online could’ve been better. And MP3 could’ve done better by adding an online capability. And a bunch of the shooters could’ve been made online too. Not ALL of them but a lot of them could’ve been made online and that probably would’ve made up for any dumb assery by Nintendo.
why rip off microsoft for the their good and original ideas and instead just buy a 360, i mean, atleast you won’t be called a scam artist
